The University of North Carolina at Charlotte Department of Africana Studies Assistant Professor Position in African Diaspora Studies
The Department of Africana Studies at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professorship position in African Diaspora Studies, beginning August 2010. Required qualifications include: Ph.D. in a relevant social science/humanities discipline by date of appointment; evidence in interdisciplinary and comparative approaches in teaching and scholarship. Research expertise and teaching competence in African Diaspora Theory, transnationalism, cultural production, and/or migration are desired. Screening of applicants will begin December 7, 2009 and will continue until the position is filled. The successful candidate will carry a 2/2 teaching load, including survey courses in Africana Studies and General Education and courses in his/her area of research; will maintain regular high-quality publication, seek external funding, advise students, contribute to the governance of the department and the university, and participate in development of future graduate programs. The Africana Studies Department at UNC Charlotte is an interdisciplinary department, focusing on the study of Africa and the African Diaspora from historical, cultural, comparative, and policy perspectives. The department offers B.A. and Minor in Africana Studies and contributes to the university’s General Education program. It has strong collaborative relationships with interdisciplinary programs and departments including Anthropology; Communication Studies; English; Global, International and Area Studies; History; Language and Cultural Studies; Philosophy; Political Science; Religious Studies; and Women’s and Gender Studies.
